Visiting the Ehime Maru Memorial

On February 9th, 2001, a United States Navy submarine, the USS Greenville, accidently struck and sunk the Japanese fishery training school vessel, the Ehime Maru, which took the lives of nine people. One year after the tragic event, the Ehime Maru Memorial was constructed and dedicated to honor the memory of those whose lives were lost. The memorial sits upon a grassy hill in Kakaako Waterfront Park overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Oahu's southern coast, near the place of the accident.

Whenever the need arrives, I-Lion Hawaii School takes students to see the memorial, clean up the area, and pay respects to the victims.
